Finding your way around
Never used a gig site before? Perfect. This page walks the entire app, button by button, and ends with click-by-click recipes for the things everyone does first. Zero assumed knowledge.
The app changes shape when you sign in
- Signed out, you see the magazine: a top navigation bar, the page, a footer. You can browse Discover, read requests, look at profiles and the Hall of Fame — but doing anything (posting, applying, saving) asks you to sign in first.
- Signed in, the whole site becomes your workspace. On a computer you get a sidebar on the left; on a phone you get a floating tab bar at the bottom. Same pages, same buttons, just arranged for your screen.
The site speaks 7 languages (English, Spanish, Dutch, French, Italian, German, Portuguese). It follows your browser's language automatically — to force one, put its code in the address: weirdrequests.com/es/discover for Spanish, /fr/ for French, and so on.
On a phone: the five tabs
The floating pill at the bottom of the screen, left to right:
- 🏠 Home — your : your requests, your applications, and what needs attention right now.
- 🧭 Discover — the of every open request. The Filters button at the top opens category, price, sort, and location controls.
- ➕ The big plus — post a request. Opens the composer right there on the spot.
- 📥 Inbox — your . One chat thread per application, so deals never tangle.
- 👤 Profile — your . This is also where Saved, Earnings, and Billing live on mobile, under "Your stuff."
On a computer: the sidebar
- Browse — Home, , .
- Your stuff — , , , , , .
- Post a request — the big button up top. Hard to miss. That's deliberate.
- The top bar has search, the theme toggle (light/dark), and your avatar menu.
Every page, one line each
| Page | What it's for |
---
Everything that needs your attention, both roles, one screen.
All open requests. Filter, search, bookmark, apply.
Full-text search across titles and descriptions.
The community's most-upvoted requests — daily through all-time.
Requests you posted, with status: applications, in progress, delivered, done.
Requests you applied to, with where each one stands.
Every chat thread. The paperclip attaches files; "Make an offer" proposes a price.
Your bookmarks and saved searches with alert settings. Private to you.
Money coming to you: escrow with your name on it, lifetime payouts, tips, receipts.
Recipe: post your first request
- Tap the ➕ (phone) or Post a request (computer, top of sidebar).
- Title — one vivid sentence. "Whisper my grocery list in French" beats "Audio needed."
- Description — what, exactly, does "done" look like? Write it like instructions for a smart stranger, because that's literally what it is.
- Category — pick the closest of the 12. Don't overthink it.
- Delivery format — what you want back: video, photos, audio, writing, a digital file, a physical thing, a live call. Tick all that apply.
- Price — between $25 and $2,500. What's it worth to you? ($50–$250 is the sweet spot for most creative asks.)
- — how long the post stays open for applications. Default is 14 days.
It costs nothing to post. You're only charged when you pick someone — and the form will ask you to add a card first so any fulfiller you pick knows the money's real. Add or change cards any time in .
Recipe: land your first gig
- Open . Tap Filters and narrow to categories you could actually deliver.
- Found one? Tap the card to read the full brief. Read it twice — the description is the contract.
- Tap Apply. Write 2–4 sentences: why you, and how you'd nail the hard part. Quote their weird specifics back at them — it proves you read it.
- Keep their price or propose your own — a thoughtful counter signals you scoped the work.
- Send it. You'll get a notification if they message you or pick you.
- Before you're picked, set up payouts in — a short identity + bank verification through our payments partner (or add a crypto wallet). Do it now; future-you, holding an accepted delivery, will be glad.
- Picked? Their money is already in escrow. Deliver within through the delivery form on the request. Then they accept, and the money (minus the 15% fee) heads to your bank or wallet.
While you wait for the perfect request: bookmark candidates with the 🔖 on any card, and save your search (the "Save this search" button under the filters) so the site emails you when new matches appear — instant, daily, or weekly, your call. Both live on .
Recipe: negotiate with a custom offer
Haggling in prose gets messy. Offers make it one tap:
- Open the chat thread (Inbox → the conversation).
- Tap Make an offer above the message box.
- Enter the price and, optionally, a note ("Throw in a second take and it's a deal").
- Send. The other side gets an offer card with Accept and Decline buttons.
- If they accept, that price is the application's price now — picking charges exactly that. If they decline, nothing changes; counter away.
Offers only exist before the pick. Once money's in escrow, the price is locked (a tip at acceptance covers "you went above and beyond").
Recipe: request someone specific (direct request)
Found your weirdo and want them, not the open market?
- Go to their profile (tap their @handle anywhere) and hit "Request @them directly" — or, on a job they already completed for you, "Request @them again."
- The composer opens with a banner confirming it's a direct request: private, never on the public feed, only they can see it and apply. (Changed your mind? Hit the × on the banner and it becomes a normal public request.)
- Write and submit like any request. Same moderation, same escrow, same protections — different audience: exactly one person.
- They're notified the moment it's live. If they're in away mode you'll see a heads-up that replies may be slow.
